Using the energy efficient
building materials are the way of the day. The reason is it saves money and preserves
the environment as well. Nowadays with
this trend of energy efficient materials which are in vogue there are many materials
of construction that are available that make the houses greener. Of course
there are many materials and techniques that make us more energy efficient and
in this article we try to enumerate few of the most popular techniques and
trends.

Foundation:
Many houses have crawl spaces
under them which perpetrates energy loss because the air vents do happen
through them. One can check them through installing a crawl space vapor barrier
which essentially closes off the crawl space. This obviously allows the cooling
and the heating ducts which start working more effectively. These are generally
a plastic vapor barrier installed with a crawl space door and a humidifier which
can also check the energy loss in the way of stopping mold, rodents, mildew and
other such elements.
The Sheathing:
There is an increased usage of paneled
sliding, OSB and plywood which are used as a typical structural covering for
roofs, floors and walls as well. These materials are made up of veneers of wood,
pressed pulp and oriented strand. Another kind of sheathing that is often used
is Thermostat OSB Radiant Barrier Sheathing which is radiant barrier sheathing
for the roof. This is just a conventional piece of plywood with an added layer
of aluminum foil or craft paper laminate on the upper side of it. This helps in
reflecting about 95 to 97 percent of the sun’s radiant energy which does not
allow the heat to enter to your attic or the room on the roof top. The in turn
keeps the roof and the rooms under it cooler.
Insulation:
Insulation prevents the heat to
enter the interiors of the house by keeping a layer of a thermal blanket which keeps
it cool and warm as well which of course depends on the season. Penetration is
a term of a technology often used in the walls, ceilings and floors which
causes significant loss of air. Leakage of air is responsible to the extent of
50 percent for the heating of a home and energy loss from the cooling system. Sealing
any of the penetrations in the home can be done by using sprayed foam which
insulates the attic space which is a substitute for the conventional fiber
glass insulation. The sprayed foam is a modified urethane polymer and
necessarily a foaming agent. The foam as it is sprayed in to the stud walls,
attic floors and trussed roofs, it goes into it and hardens due to expansion. It
can then be covered with conventional dry wall.
Shingles:
The shingles are a good option for
the home owners who want to substitute the cost of re roofing and new
construction of home.Thus the
energy efficient materials that are available today can be used by the home
owners to erect much more energy efficient green buildings which are not just
energy efficient but also cost effective as well.
ReplyDeleteHi , I've read a few things on this site and I really do think that it has helped tremendously. There's still a heap I need to learn thus can continue learning and can keep coming back.
